This is the last year before school – your baby has grown up! There is so much to do and so much to learn. Talking is now second nature and they can now argue! They also remember past events and can think about future events. Pre-schoolers work towards the Foundation Stage – a curriculum devised by Ofsted. The Foundation Stage covers six areas: Mathematics, Communication, Literacy and Language, Knowledge and Understanding of the World and Social Development, Physical and Creative Development.. We introduce the work through topic and topic information is posted up for parents. Each topic theme lasts for six weeks. Please talk to your child about the topic and encourage them to bring in items if requested, it really helps with the home-school link later on. |

| We also introduce Talking Point Cards for our pre-schoolers to bring home with them. These cards give you and your child an opportunity to talk together about the picture or photograph in the child's file. This is an important pre-reading skill and encourages sitting still, listening, talking and looking – it is the start of your child's reading life. Trips out are a feature of the pre-school year and were considered to be an outstanding aspect of the nursery. We visit a range of places such as the Science Museum, Heaton Park , Grane Reservoir, Stockleys Sweetie Factory, Manchester Airport and anywhere else linked to topic! |
